Position Overview

Burke is seeking a Part-Time Mental Health Specialist to support adults experiencing mental health crises in a 24/7 Emergency Center setting. This role focuses on safety monitoring, therapeutic engagement, and assisting individuals on the Extended Observation and Crisis Residential Units.

The Mental Health Specialist works directly with clients to promote stabilization, support daily functioning, and maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide safety monitoring and support for adults with acute mental health needs

  • Intervene appropriately to prevent escalation and maintain a therapeutic environment

  • Encourage and assist client participation in treatment services

  • Support activities of daily living, including prompting and supervision

  • Observe, document, and report client behaviors and conditions

  • Transport clients to community medical services as needed

  • Perform duties in accordance with Burke and Medicaid standards

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education
Required: High school diploma or GED

Experience
Preferred: Experience working with adults with mental illness

Licenses & Additional Requirements

  • Valid Texas driver's license with an insurable driving record

  • Reliable transportation

  • Ability to complete required training (Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression (SAMA), CPR/First Aid, Defensive Driving, Van Driving, and employee training modules)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively

  • Ability to walk, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to drive a vehicle

  • Hand and finger dexterity for routine tasks and documentation
