Position Summary
Burke is seeking a compassionate and dependable Part-Time Mental Health Specialist to support individuals experiencing mental health crises within the Extended Observation and Crisis Residential Units at the Mental Health Emergency Center in Lufkin, TX.
This position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and supportive environment for adults with mental illness. The program operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and staff may be scheduled on an as-needed basis to assist with unit coverage.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Monitoring and supervising adults experiencing acute mental health symptoms
- Assisting in preventing behavioral escalation and supporting crisis intervention efforts
- Encouraging client participation in treatment services and daily activities
- Assisting clients with activities of daily living as needed
- Observing, documenting, and reporting client behaviors and conditions
- Supporting a safe and therapeutic treatment environment
- Transporting clients to medical or community-based services when necessary
- Providing services in compliance with Burke and Medicaid standards
Successful candidates will demonstrate emotional maturity, flexibility, professionalism, strong communication skills, and sound judgment.
Education Requirements
Required:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with adults with mental illness preferred
Licenses & Certifications
Required:
- Valid Texas Driver's License
Additional Requirements
Candidates must be able to successfully complete required training, including:
- Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression (SAMA)
- CPR & First Aid
- Defensive Driving
- Van Driving
- Additional required training modules
Additional requirements include:
- Reliable transportation
- Driving record acceptable to Burke's insurance carrier
Physical Requirements
Candidates must be able to perform the following:
- Walking and standing for extended periods
- Driving a vehicle
- Lifting up to 50 pounds
- Hand/finger dexterity
- Effective communication, hearing, and vision abilities
Schedule
- Hours will vary
Compensation
$14.83 per hour
