General Description

The PT Vocational Instructor is responsible for providing guidance and instruction for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who desire to learn marketable and transferrable job skills to gain competitive employment in an integrated work environment. Work includes recruiting apprentices into the program, finding employer hosts in the community, and planning and performing classroom instruction for apprentices daily. The vocational instructor will also serve as a job coach to the apprentices and transport clients to and from their job sites, facilitate assessments of the apprentice's skills and personal desire for future employment, and meet with apprentices to discuss progress and any barriers to planned goals and other duties as assigned. THIS IS A TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT THAT WILL END IN MARCH!

Education

Required: Graduation from an accredited high school or its equivalent.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience

Preferred: One (1) year of continuous responsible experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities in a direct service role.

Preferred: One (1) year of classroom instruction

Licenses/Certifications

Required: Valid Texas Driver's License.

Required: Ability to complete the course and gain certification for a job coach, job placement, and other certifications that are required.

Special Requests or Comments

Required: Must be physically able to complete Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression (SAMA), CPR, First Aid and Defensive Driving training modules. Must complete all required employee training. Must have a driving record insurable by Burke's insurance administrator.

Physical Requirements

Request: Sight, hearing, talking, lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, driving a vehicle, and hand/finger dexterity.

Hours

Monday - Wednesday; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (This is a temporary assignment that will end in March)

Salary

$20.00 an hour
